What does it take to build and sustain a community school?

In this four-part podcast series, three NC Community School Coordinators from Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools share their journeys, dreams, lessons, and hopes for the work:

Monata Johnson
P.W. Moore Elementary School

J’Vonn Davis
Elizabeth City Middle School

Antonio Moore
Northeastern High School

Created as a university student-led project by Kennedy Lightfoot of North Carolina Central University, and Kaylyn Winston of North Carolina Central University, Stories That Sustain Us uplifts the voices of coordinators who are closest to the daily work of connecting students, families, schools, and communities.

The series is organized around four themes:

Episode 1: The Journey
What brought coordinators to this work?

Episode 2: The Dream
What do they hope community schools can make possible?

Episode 3: The Lesson
What have they learned along the way?

Episode 4: The Pitch
What should people unfamiliar with community schools know?

Projects like this are made possible through strong University-Assisted Community Schools partnerships that connect higher education, public schools, and local communities. These partnerships help tell the story of what is happening in NC Community Schools while also supporting the next generation of educators, researchers, storytellers, and education leaders.
